Insights from our newly certified Scrum Master!

Bianca Busler has successfully passed the Scrum Master exam. Her newly acquired skills and knowledge enable us to make projects more efficient and further improve the quality of our services. To find out more about her role and responsibilities, we interviewed her.

What are your responsibilities as a Scrum Master in our company?

Bianca: As a Scrum Master, I am responsible for all aspects of a Scrum project. I make sure that the Scrum rules are strictly adhered to and ensure that everything runs according to the Scrum guidelines during the sprint. The role of Scrum Master is often referred to as a "servant leader". This means that I take on a supporting leadership role in which I mainly act as a coach and moderator.

What challenges do you see in the role of Scrum Master and how do you deal with them?

Bianca: One of the biggest challenges is to ensure the understanding and application of the Scrum method, especially for teams that are new to the method. This includes transferring knowledge and techniques to teammates. It is a challenge to continuously motivate the team to improve and develop innovative solutions. Effective time management is essential.

What measures do you take to ensure that the team achieves the sprint goals and continuously improves?

Bianca: I take the following measures to ensure that the team achieves the sprint goals and continuously improves:

1. Regular meetings: daily stand-ups, planning, reviews and retrospectives are essential to monitor progress and react quickly to obstacles. These meetings enable the team to stay synchronized and develop solutions together.
2. Jira Board usage: By transparently displaying all tasks and progress on the Jira Board, the team can maintain an overview and set clear priorities.
3. Individual 1:1 meetings: Personal meetings for coaching and mentoring are important in order to address the specific needs and challenges of team members, provide them with targeted support and promote their further development.

What tools or methods do you use to track the team's progress and identify bottlenecks?

Bianca: We use a combination of tools and methods to track progress and identify bottlenecks:

1. Jira: Jira allows us to visualize and track tasks and progress. The Jira Board provides a clear overview of the current status of tasks, the distribution of work within the team and potential bottlenecks.
2. Regular meetings: These play an important role in monitoring and synchronizing the team.
3. Retrospectives: At the end of each sprint, the team reflects on the previous weeks, identifies what went well and what can be improved. This reflection helps to identify recurring bottlenecks and to work continuously on process optimization.
